John F. Miner
(1874- ? )

John F. Miner was born in January 1874, presumably in Omega, Marion County, IL, the son of Chance and Martha (Jones) Miner.

Little is known of his life.

In 1889, when he was 15, John witnessed an affidavit that his mother had given in his father's Civil War pension case. The family was living in Omega at the time.

John married Ettie Josie Roberts (1880- ? ) on March 15, 1899. She was age 19 at the time, and a resident of Omega Township, Marion County, and the daughter of Eli and Lucy J. (Green) Roberts. The wedding took place at the office of justice of the peace S.J. Wagner, and was witnessed by H.L. Roberts and Sarah J. Wagner.

The Miners had at least two children -- Florence "Flossie" Miner and John E. Miner.

When the federal census was taken in 1900, the Miners were living with Ettie's widowed father in Omega Township, where they labored as farmers. John and Ettie's two young children had been born by that time -- Flossie and John.

The fates of this family after that are unknown. A search of the 1910 census on Ancestry.com, under  a variety of spellings and alternate combinations of names, proved unsuccessful.

We are grateful to Harold Boyles, president of the Marion County Genealogical Society, for his research assistance at the Society's facility in the Bryan-Bennett Library in Salem, Marion County.
