The Fulton Democrat

Influential Civil War-era Newspaper Published by William Taylor Davidson of Lewistown, Illinois

 

William Taylor Davidson, husband of Lucinda Miner, was a prominent publisher of the Fulton Democrat in Lewistown, Fulton County, IL in the mid to late 1800s and early 1900s. He was a contemporary of President Abraham Lincoln and candidate Stephen A. Douglas, and also a professional rival of Edward Lee Masters, author of the Spoon River Anthology.

Several original copies of Civil War era editions of the Democrat have been preserved and are shown on this page.
