Publications

One of the hallmarks of the our reunions is that we publish research findings tied to themes.  Every year since 1993, we have produced unique publications which are interesting, useful and, hopefully, inspire others to pursue and share their own research.  Copies are free, but we ask that you make a generous donation of $3.00 per copy to help offset our costs to keep this site online.  To order, click here.  Publications have included:

2000-2001 - Digital publication of our family website, Minerd.Com. The content on the site is provided completely free of charge, though it costs funds each month to post it online.

1999 - Coal, Coke & Steel is a 16-page booklet which contains 40 rare family photographs in addition to career information about more than 330 cousin-laborers who helped build our nation's infrastructure and great landmarks.  Includes sidebar features on 14 known cousins killed in workplace accidents; coal land ownership, the role of clergy in nurturing families and burying the dead, and the hazards of life for children in coal region towns.

1998 - Saluting Our Wartime Heroes contains a collage of many fascinating vintage photographs of our cousins in uniform as well as a multi-page honor roll of more than 300 known cousins and spouses who served their nation in the US Armed Forces during wartime -- including the American Revolution, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War and, most recently, the Gulf War.  A must for military buffs!

1997 - A Sense of Wonder is a 16-page booklet which contains many rare photos and career entries on more than 220 cousins and spouses who have worked in the field of education --  as administrators, teachers, coaches, aides, secretaries, bus drivers and custodians, at places ranging from one-room schoolhouses to prestigious large universities -- and who have touched thousands of minds and conveyed a sense of wonder through words, numbers, the arts and the sciences.

1996 - Update on ... Civil War Soldiers in the Minerd- Miner- Minor Family is a 1-page, 2-sided fact sheet containing several rare photographs plus biographies of 5 cousins who either served in the war or were exempted from service due to a physical disability.   This Update is an important supplement to the 1994 reunion booklet (see below).

1995 - Minerd-Fest Cookbook is a 16-page booklet printed for our "Minerd-Fest" reunion.  It is filled with a host of delicious recipes for main courses, side dishes and desserts provided by our cousins.  Many of the recipes old German delights passed down through the generations.  Also -- Our German Connection written by cousin Eugene F. Podraza was published but is available on this site

1994 - 22 Minerd-Miner Family Soldiers in the Civil War is an 8-page photo album containing biographical overviews of the lives and wartime experiences of 22 Civil War soldiers who were members of our family.   This booklet proved to be a "best seller" and few copies remain for distribution.  It was the first of our annual publication series to examine the family's role in the larger context of current events on a national scale.

1993 - Sketch of Minerd Families - Historical and Traditional is a 1-page, 2-sided reprint of a speech given by Minerd cousin Allen E. Harbaugh at the 1st annual Minerd Reunion in 1913, and re-read by Harbaugh's great-grandson, Donald Harbaugh, at the "80th Anniversary Reunion" held in 1993.  While the full text of Harbaugh's history is available on this site, this reprint contains nuggets about the first reunion for which he wrote the narrative.
