Mary "Mayme"
(Minor) Daugherty

(1869-1962)

Mary "Mayme" (Minor) Daugherty born on Nov. 10, 1869 (or 1870) in Brownsville, Licking County, OH, the daughter of Daniel L. and Frances (Vreeland) Minor.

Little is known of her life.

When Mayme was about three she and her parents moved to the coal and clay mining town of Shawnee, Perry County, OH.

The federal census of 1900 shows 29-year-old Mayme living with her parents and sister in Shawnee, and employed as a dress maker.

At an unknown point in time, Mayme married a man named Daugherty. They had no children, and his fate is unknown.

Mayme was a member of the Shawnee Methodist Church. Seen here is a rare old postcard view of Shawnee's Main Street, postmarked 1911.

As she aged, Mayme went to live at the Perry County Home. She died there after a long illness in late September 1962. Her funeral arrangements were handled by the J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home. She was buried beside her sister Maude in the Shawnee Cemetery.
