Eternal Sleep
Virginia Minerd At Rest in Her Casket, 1916

Virginia Minerd, daughter of Charles Thomas and Perie (Monteith) Minerd, and granddaughter of Thomas and Kate (Ramsey) Minerd of Smithfield, Fayette County, PA, died on Jan. 12, 1916 after contracting whooping cough and bronchial pneumonia. She was just 13 months and 21 days old. An obituary in the Connellsville Daily Courier reported that the funeral was led by Rev. W.M. Bracken, and that burial followed in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smithfield. The little girl was photographed in her casket as a remembrance, perhaps the only image of her that exists.
