Rev. William Mullen Minerd stands with his baseball teammates of the H.C. Frick Coke Company's Brinkerton Works Club, of near Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland County, PA, circa 1910. He is second from left in the back row. After attending a religious revival in about 1915, however, Will was converted to the Christian faith, and left his labors as a coal miner for good. He thus decided to study for the ministry, and spent the rest of his 35-year career as a clergyman in the United Evangelical Brethren Churches of Jennerstown, PA (1918-19); Bethany, PA (1919-24?); Freedom and Salem, Armstrong County (1924-27?); Valencia, PA (1930); and Harnedsville, PA (1930-1936). Will was a great admirer of famed preacher Billy Sunday, who had played professional baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates before also entering the ministry.
