David Fegely Jr.
(1820-1902)

Longswamp Church Cemetery

David Fegely Jr. was born in 1820, the son of David and Susanna (Gaumer) Fögle -- Americanized to "Fegely" and "Fegley."

He was a lifelong bachelor.

When the federal census was taken in 1860, David resided in the household of his younger brother and sister-in-law James and Mary Fegely in Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County. David earned a living as a day laborer, while the brother worked as a master carpenter. Their aged parents lived next door.

As an older man, he moved into the home of his married niece and her husband, Sarah and Matthias Roth in Emmaus, Lehigh County.

David died in the Roth residence just 27 days after his 82nd birthday on Feb. 19, 1902. An obituary in the Allentown Leader said he was survived by his brother Jesse of Shamrock station and sister Hannah Dankel of Longswamp. Rev. D.K. Humbert officiated at the funeral, which was held in the Longswamp Church. Mrs. John Fegley of Zionsville traveled to attend the funeral service.

After David's death, nephew Matthias Roth served as executor of the estate.
