John Meinert Sr.
(1740-1770)

John Meinert Sr. (also known as Meinder or Minder), the son of our German immigrant ancestors Friedrich and Eva Maria (Weber) Meinert, was born circa 1740 in Philadelphia County, later becoming Berks County, PA.

John married Maria Margaret Müller (Miller) ( ? - ? ), the daughter of Johannes Müller.

They produced three children -- Dorothea Meinert, Anna Maria Meinert and John Meinert Jr.

John Sr. is listed on the Berks County tax list in 1767 living in Maxatawny Township.  A year later, he and his family moved to Macungie Township, Northampton County, PA.

In 1770, at the age of about 30, John died. The cause of his untimely passing is not knwn.

The widowed Maria Margaret remarried to George Sheuptt ( ? - ? ).

The bore two daughters of their own -- Catherine Sheuptt and Mary Sheuptt.

Sadly, Maria Margaret died sometime before 1785, leaving her husband and father to grieve her loss.

When the will of Maria Margaret's father was probated in 1785, it was noted that she was already deceased. In the will, only two of their three children are mentioned (Anna Maria and John Jr.), a hint that Dorothea have have already died.
