Charles Griffin Strauch was born on Oct. 20, 1869 (or 1870) in Bullskin Township, Fayette County, PA, the son of John H. and Catherine (Martin) Strauch.

Charles' mother died in 1873, when he was a boy, and his father later married Mary Hester McKnight.

As a young man, Charles dwelled in Dunbar Township, Fayette County and earned a living as a laborer.

On Dec. 10, 1890, when he was 21 years of age, Charles was united in holy matrimony with 21-year-old Eva S. Goe (1868- ? ), daughter of John W. and Elizabeth Goe of Dunbar Township. Rev. A.M. Howard (spelling?) officiated.

The couple bore at least three known children -- Carl Strauch, Charles P. Strauch and Nell Esther "Nellie" Lawson.

The Strauchs relocated to California in about 1919. The United States Census for 1920 shows the couple making their home in McKittrick, Kern County, CA. That year, Charles worked as an electrician, apparently for General Petroleum in the oil industry. He continued his oilfield labors during the decade of the 1920s, with the family shown in the 1930 census in Kern County.

By 1935, Charles and Eva relocated to Porterville, Tulare County, CA and remained there, retired, as of 1940.

John died in Tulare County on July 19, 1948.
