How many coal miners can you pick out in this photo?  (We count seven, including six standing on the diagonal drive belt.) Cleveland Farabee, son of Spencer and Nancy (Minor) Farabee, owned a small coal mine near his residence in Dotysburg, near Waynesburg, Greene County, PA.  The coal wagons were pulled in and out of the mine by mules.  The facility did not produce much coal, and was eventually closed. This image was made from an old glass plate negative found in the attic of Cleve's home, and is thought to show the mine in its heyday. Click here for more on our clan's long-term role in the coal, coke and steel industry.
