Wilbert O. Martin
(1876-1958)

Wilbert O. Martin was born on June 28, 1876 in Preston County, WV, the youngest son of James K. and Margaret (Minerd) Martin.

On Nov. 23, 1898, the 22-year-old Wilbert married 21-year-old Mary Catherine "Katie" Miller (1879-1958), a native of Preston County. The wedding was officiated by T.R. Faulkner at Albrightsville, Preston County. The Martins' marriage license is still on file today at the Preston County Courthouse in Kingwood.

When the federal census was taken in Preston County in 1920, Wilbert and Katie were living together in their household, along with a boarder, 14-year-old William Taylor (relationship unknown). The census taker wrote Katie's name as "Mary C."

In 1935, Wilbur was mentioned by name in the Clarksburg Exponent obituary of his sister Kate Skinner.

Wilbert resided at Valley Point, Preston County, in 1937 at the death of his sister Bell Miller, and was mentioned in her obituary in the Preston County Journal.

Records provided in 1998 by Bill Martin of Jay, Okla., confirms that Katie's maiden name was actually "Mary Catherine Liston" and that she died in 1958, and that Wilbert was nicknamed "Wib" and also died in 1958.

Nothing further of their lives is known.
