Longtime railroader Daniel Martin Younkin of Rockwood, Somerset County, PA stands with his wife Susan and young daughter Alice at a workshed along the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line near their home. Note the steel rail in the lower right hand corner of the image.

Daniel retired from the B&O in 1918, after 32 years of service, and received a gold medal from the company for his dedication and loyalty. The same year he retired, Dan helped organize the Minerd-Miner Reunion in Rockwood, an event which was featured in a Somerset newspaper. The article provides important details about Daniel's parents and grandparents, and the hardships they faced as pioneers.
