A pioneer in the postal service of our nation was general store owner Seth Reed Johnston (1827-1923) of Brownsville and Glenford, Ohio. He married not once but twice into the Minerd-Miner-Minor family, and one of his sons became a judge.

Seth's first wife was Isabel Minor, the mother of five of his six children. Tragically, Isabel was killed in 1874 when thrown from her buggy after her horse was frightened by a dog. He then married his wife's sister Elizabeth Minor, and they had a child of their own.

In 1871, Seth was appointed postmaster of the U.S. Post Office at Glenford, Perry County, Ohio, located within his store. He held this position for many years.

Son James E. Johnston was one of the earliest judges in our clan, serving on a common pleas court of Perry County. Another son, William Seth Johnston, owned the first automobile in Glenford. Son in law Alva Cooperrider was an entrepreneur in sand mining in Perry County circa 1910.
